“After spending quite some time in the cathedral planning and installing this work and the others, I realised I wanted visitors to feel and understand the dialectic and fusion of architecture, fine art and religion; to realise the sense of place, the sense of history, legacy and more importantly their place within it.  This was after all Lent, the crucially important period of sacrifice and reflection within the Christian calendar.  Yet, this is against an ongoing background of conflict globally where soldiers, terrorists and victims are sacrificing themselves or are being sacrificed and therefore I entitled the installation: "Does mankind survive through sacrifice?” Terry Duffy 2009
