The Maze Prison
Longkesh, Belfast.
In stark contrast to Venice the Maze
prison, the iconic symbol of the
Troubles, not only expresses for
Duffy religious and political
divided but the human capacity for
hatred and willingness to subject
others to extreme cruelty. Duffy
grew up in Liverpool in the 60's
very aware of religious hatred on
both sides which still existed then
in Liverpool.
The Maze is an iconic, historic
building, a centre of peace protests
and the Good Friday Agreement. Duffy
hopes hopes that this will add, as
does his work “Victim,
no resurrection” to
reconciliation.
